guru mantra#

गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः ।
गुरुः साक्षात् परब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ।।

gururbrahmā gururviṣṇuḥ gururdevo maheśvaraḥ
guruḥ sākṣāt parabrahma tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

The Guru is Brahmā, the Guru is Vishnu, the Guru is Maheśvara (Shiva). The Guru is verily the Supreme Brahman. Salutations to that revered Guru.

The mantra acknowledges and pays respect to the teacher within us all.

śānti mantra#

ॐ सह नाववतु ।
सह नौ भुनक्तु ।
सह वीर्यं करवावहै ।
तेजस्वि नावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै ||
|| ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ||

oṃ saha nāvavatu
saha nau bhunaktu
saha vīryaṃ karavāvahai
tejasvi nāvadhītamastu mā vidviṣāvahai
oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ

May us both (the teacher and student) be protected.
May us both be nourished (with Knowledge).
May we work together with vigour.
May our studies be enlightening and may we not have contempt for each other.
